Modeling and Visualization

ASPIRE Stresses Modeling and Visualization in Curriculum Materials

ASPIRE is actively engaging teachers in mathematical and computational modeling and visualization.  For the past
two academic years, the follow-up workshops as well as the summer institutes have concentrated on modeling and
visualization.  Teachers are gaining more experience in modeling and a greater understanding of science through their
modeling activities.  This experience and knowledge transfers directly to their students through the materials they acquire
as well as through the information and expertise they gain.

Modeling and Visualizaton Workshop to be Held in Washington D. C.

ASPIRE is on the planning committee of a modeling and visualization workshop that will bring together educators,
administrators, researchers, and scientists to discuss the future of science in education.  They will be able to discuss
current trends in education and what is needed to make science in our schools more engaging for students.

ASPIRE and SC2000

ASPIRE is a co-PI for the prestigious SC2000 conference.
This year the emphasis for the Education Program is the development of Teacher Leaders in their academic
communities. 100 teachers from all over the United States (and even Germany) will convene at the Dallas Texas
Convention Center on November 4-9, 2000.  These teachers represent science teachers, mathematics teachers,
and administrators from 25 different schools.  During the workshop the teachers will learn about modeling
and visualization and how to integrate it into their classroom.
Next summer the same group of teachers will come to the University of Alabama for a two week intensive
workshop on modeling and visualization and implementation.  Teachers will be expected to create modules that
can be used in science and mathematics classrooms.
Three teams from Alabama are a part of the 25 teams.
